Guts & Gumption-What It Takes to Go After Your Dream!

Do you have a dream that you really want but are scared to go after?

Our 3 panelists have gone after their dream! They’ll join us to share the unedited version of their journey, both the highs and lows.

Our panelists are local Raleigh business women:

  • Nicole Denny, J’Adore
  • Lisa Kaufman, Scout and Molly
  • Sara Laughter, Pass the Gravy

Join us to learn about what it takes to say Yes your dream, and then persevere through the ups and downs, in this interactive and engaging panel discussion.

Nicole Denny, J'Adore.  Nicole found herself approaching 40 feeling totally unhappy, lost and drained of passion.  She was ready to find herself and her drive again.

She went from working part-time at what was then ADORE, to thinking "I could do this.. no, I could do this BETTER."  Her dreams, vision and motivation returned.  She faced challenge after challenge, found her wings and learned to rely on herself.

Now she owns J'Adore and wouldn't trade it for anything!

Lisa Kaufman, Scout and Molly.   At 25, she decided to follow her dream of owning a business.  She wrote a business plan, took it to the bank to get an SBA loan, and opened Scout and Molly in 2002.   Today there are more than 40 Scout & Molly's Boutique franchises open across the country with another 10 more slated to open this year.

In 2008, with 2 small children at home and a business to run, Kaufman was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. This was a turning point for Lisa and for her business. She refused to let the diagnosis and the disease define her. Lisa decided her purpose was to make a difference in the lives of others. She began incorporating fundraising into her business model and it truly became part of the Scout & Molly's corporate culture. Over the years she has raised money for the National MS Society, The MS Foundation, The George Snow Scholarship Fund, several animal rescue groups and a multitude of other philanthropic organizations. Shopping for a Cause has become a part of the whole Scout & Molly's experience.

Sara Laughter, Pass the Gravy.  With a mutual love for tee shirts, fun and funky designs, and North Carolina, Sara and her husband created Pass the Gravy over weekends and during many queso-filled lunches with the simple premise of supporting North Carolina through their designs and donations.

Pass the Gravy T-shirts are manufactured in NC and SC, from cotton grown in NC, and are printed by TS Designs in Burlington NC. 10% of net profits are donated to the early education program Smart Start.

The phrase Pass the Gravy brings back positive memories, whether it's sitting around the dinner table or thinking about good times with family and friends, and that is what their brand is all about.

Join us for an enlightening, dynamic conversation with these successful businesswomen who said YES to their dream!
